About Seferat

The Ascent — A Digital Home for Geʽez Scripture and Eritrean Orthodox Faith

What Is Seferat?

Seferat — meaning The Emanations in Geʽez — is the leading digital platform dedicated to Geʽez scripture study, Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo spirituality, and the ancient language of the Church. The name refers to the Asirtu Seferat (አስርቱ ሰፈራት), the Ten Divine Emanations that form a spiritual map of ascent toward God — a concept central to Eritrean and Ethiopian Orthodox theology.

Our platform offers an interactive Tree of the Ten Emanations, multilingual scripture reading in Geʽez, Tigrinya, and English, a 30-day guided spiritual journey, meditation audio, vocabulary flashcards for learning Geʽez, a Geʽez name identity analyzer, community forums, personal journaling, and spiritual goal tracking. Everything is designed to help believers deepen their faith in a digital age without losing connection to the ancient roots of the Tewahedo tradition.

Who Is It For?

Seferat is built for Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo believers worldwide — including the growing diaspora communities in the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia, and the Middle East — as well as scholars, researchers, and spiritual seekers drawn to ancient African Christianity. Whether you grew up in the Church or are discovering it for the first time, Seferat meets you where you are and guides you upward through the Ten Emanations at your own pace.

Our Mission

We believe the oldest complete Christian Bible, preserved in Geʽez for over 1,600 years by the Eritrean and Ethiopian Orthodox Churches, deserves a world-class digital home. Seferat exists to make that treasure accessible, interactive, and alive for every generation — from children learning their first Geʽez characters to scholars studying the Book of Enoch. Our mission is to preserve, translate, and illuminate the Tewahedo faith tradition for the global community.

Who Builds It?

Seferat is built and maintained by a dedicated team passionate about Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo heritage and technology. We are members of the community ourselves — believers who saw the need for a modern, respectful, and beautifully crafted digital space for ancient faith. The platform is continuously developed with feedback from clergy, scholars, and lay believers across the global Eritrean community.
